Question

While the college’s Information Technology department are technically capable of implementing an organisation-wide ERP system, they are under-staffed and are highly dependent on key individuals. Management is of the view that an external softwaredevelopment company should be approached to build the new information system. However,

one of their concerns is they do not at this time have an adequate hardware infrastructure to support uninterrupted, secure operation of the options being proposed. In fact there has been a history of service outages over the previous six months, all of which were caused by technology failures and some of which resulted in data loss. Given that management identified 24 houronline access to library resources, e-learning hubs, email and other services, 365 days a year, as essential in the increasingly competitive third level education sector, these outages are particularly worrying. As a result, the consultants suggested they should consider using a cloud based system.

In cloud storage data is stored in cloud. Cloud is a technology wherein data is not stored on the hardware system at the end of user but it’s stored on the very big data Server deployed by the Cloud service provider. Such server can store a huge amount of data and data from cloud server can be retrieved via internet by the user. User need not to have large storage capabilities but only requires internet connectivity. Through internet connection user can get data from cloud ANYTIME ANYWHERE ANY DEVICE.

In the given case, major concern of management along with how cloud system will help is as follows –

Thus I agree with the suggestion of the consultant.
