What archaeological evidence shows that modern human behavior during the upper Paleolithic was significantly different from that of earlier homoinins? Compare and contrast some key differences in burial contexts between modern humans and the Neanderthals. What do you think accounts for these differences?Explanation / Answer
Modern humans have shorter brains than Neanderthals. Neanderthals are shorter than humans but have a higher cranial capacity (1600 cm3) than the modern humans. They are stockier than humans with large noses and projecting bow ridges, reduced chin, flaring or expanded pelvis, Both the Neanderthals and modern humans are evolved between 500,000 and 200,000 years ago from a common ancestor. Later they evolved separately and the differences are mainly attributable to the variation in the method of consumption of utilization of food (energy).
