Ans 1. The immunological response due to filariform larvae of ancylostoma results in triggering of T helper type 2. Activation of mast cells in the gut mucosa, elevated levels of immunoglobulin E. Eosinophilia in local tissues and peripheral blood. These leads to the type I hypersensitivity reaction.
Ans 2. Hookworms could be used for treatment of allergies as the studies have suggested it triggers the immune response and raises the eosinophils resulting in the type I hypersensitivity reaction. But most of the evidence suggest that it takes more time to initiate the immunological response and is characterised by increased time by the hookworms to initiate an immunomodulatory activity.
