Question
What could be written in the "discussion" section of this report?
The goal of the experiment: The aid and utilization of the organism’s DNA has made distinction between species much easier. In this research, different algae were differentiated and classified by their DNA. Different algae were collected from different environments, cultured and the DNA were then isolated. The IRS region of the genome was amplified by PCR and these regions were then compared with each other using gel electrophoresis and other efficient methods.
Result Since I have yet to amplify the ITS region of the genomes of each algae sample which I will attach a figure once completed, I do have the results of the microphotography and the range of shapes and shades of green that were observed. In the figure below is the picture of each sample A-F, ranging in different magnifications. As seen below, the different types of algae that is being dealt with in this experiment have similar shapes and colors while others are completely independent and look different. Those with completely different appearances can be distinguished based on their physical attributes however it is those that look alike are the reason why the use of DNA will be beneficial to distinguish them from one another. 13 C.Explanation / Answer
Identification of Algae species is based on the conjugation and zygospores, as most of the algal species are found in the vegetative stage. Morphological identification of algal Species can be performed by the phenotypic variations. By this, identification of closely related species of algae can mislead the results and not able to get the accurate identification. So, Molecular methods such as PCR is useful in evaluation of the genetic variations, and for the accurate identification. By using PCR technique it is easy to identify and relate algae species. One of the most common method used is microsatellite markers for the species identification green algae and different types of algal species. Microsatellite markers with PCR have great potential to study genetic variations, phylogeny, gene tagging, genome mapping, and evolutionary biology of algal species and repeat sequences can encode in the encoding region. And the differences can be observed by the genomes of the two species, which is presented in form of polymorphic bands.
