Question

In this module we learned about carrying capacity. A given area of land can support a given number of organisms of a given species. Well, the earth is a given area of land, and we as humans are a species. The earth can only hold so many people. Yet, the human population keeps growing. In fact the biggest cause of species extinction is human destruction of habitat. Are we the next to go? Could we be on the verge of a world collapse?

Topic: In this module’s discussion board tell us about how you think we can reduce the problem of world overpopulation. In a second paragraph tell us what you think about the future of our world. Please make sure to provide evidence that supports your statements and not just give your opinion.

Required: one initial post with a minimum of 250 words. You do not need to respond to other students unless you want to. You'll only be graded on the initial post. However, spelling and grammar count for everything that you do. Please do not submit your response by uploading a file. These files will not be accepted. All responses must be entries into the discussion post.

Explanation / Answer

the world overpopulation

In order to reduce the problem of world over population, there have to be multidimensional approaches. Some of these approaches could be referred to as follows. Implementation of governmental policies so that the family size could be limited. This has been done by China, to put a stop at the exponentially increasing population. Some of the countries have also put taxes on increasing families having more children. Also, there requires to be promotion of use of contraceptives along with implementation of governmental or non governmental programs that would be pressing on their use and providing them to people at subsidised rates. Also, it has been seen that huge number of children have been present in families that were not economically rich. This data could be used to increase the incomes of people so that they would concentrate less on producing children and more on work.

As a result of this overpopulation, there have been countries that have run out of the basic resources. We are already falling short of the petroleum products in the world, as a result of which there has been increasing import and export of these substances. We are draining our resources at a speed that has created alarming situations for us as well as the future generations. The rate of growth of the wealthier countries will be reducing since they have used up most of their resources and have created a technological spree that has stagnation at its end. There is an increase in inequality with the rich becoming richer. A huge increase in population has led to an increase in climate change along with a decrease of the habitable space.
