The authors in the given experiment wanted to find out the level of fibrosis. They used the stain sirius red, which specifically binds to collagens and amyloids. It is used to detect the fibrosis. In the image 4A, they find that the TAL1/Casp-8 strain had significantly less fibrosis than the
TAK1/RIP3 mice. The WT has the least fibrosis of the three strains.
They also wanted to know the level of TGF-b expression. TGF = tumour growth factor. The higher the expression, the more is the chance of tomour growth. In the rt-PCR based method, RNA was isolated from the tissue sample and gene expression was measured. The authors found that TGF beta1 and 3 have higher expression in TAK1/RIP3 mice as compared to other. This data shed light that the apoptosis induces the hepatic fibrogenesis and not necrosis.
