Consider the management of SUNY Canton.

Brainstorm applications of break-even analysis at SUNY Canton.  I invite you to explore SUNY Canton's website, with a little searching you will find the virtual tour of campus - that may assist you with this DB.

Identify one area (business unit) on campus where break-even analysis could be used. Think small, for example "student tuition or the bookstore" is too broad of an entity. Once your area on campus is identified, then identify the revenue stream, variable costs, and fixed costs that would be used in the calculation. Depending on the business unit you choose you may not have actual numbers, therefore I am looking for the theoretical model that you would apply. For full credit, be as specific as possible. If you find that another student has already used the business unit that you intended to discuss, then you must adjust your break-even analysis to be different from theirs.

This is second time posting this question. The first answer was just random answer. i didn't even know what he was talking about. Just read the direction above and give me legit answer please.

Explanation / Answer

Identify one area (business unit) on campus where break-even analysis could be used. Think small, for example "student tuition or the bookstore" is too broad of an entity.

Definition of a business unit

A logical element or segment of a company (such as accounting, production, marketing) representing a specific business function, and a definite place on the organizational chart, under the domain of a manager. Also called department, division, or a functional area.
Based on the above definition various business units identified on taking a virtual tour Canton website are as below:

1. Campus Center

2. Diversity center

3. Library

4. Housing facility

5. Athletics

6. Technoogy center

7. Veternary technology center

8. Agriculture center

9. Business learning center

10. Sports management, PTI & Nursing

Of the above, Housing center is selected as business unit for break even analysis.

Once your area on campus is identified, then identify the revenue stream, variable costs, and fixed costs that would be used in the calculation. Depending on the business unit you choose you may not have actual numbers, therefore I am looking for the theoretical model that you would apply.

Break-even analysis is a simple, yet powerful quantitative tool for managers that provides insight into whether or not revenue from a product or service has the ability to cover the relevant costs of production of that product or service.

A break even point is a point at which the revenue is equal to the total expenses of the business, resulting in a zero profit.

Below are the requisites for break even analysis of housing center:

1. Revenue stream: Revenue for the housing center is generated from the fee paid by the students. Housing facility is mandatory for all the students as provided in the tution fee and charges catalogue.

2. Variable costs: These costs are the costs which are directly associated with the occupancy of the facility. Some of the examples of variable costs are cleaning materials, stationery, chemicals for laundry, water treatment plants etc

3. Fixed costs: Fixed costs are not usually effected by the occupancy of the facility. Some of the examples of the fixed costs that can be incurred are : Land and building taxes to government, salaries / wages to administrative staff, Annual maintenance contracts, Internet and telephone plans etc,
