Why are the spatial relations in the squid so confusing? when the animal swims one end goes forward first. why not call that anterior end instead of dorsal? Alternatively, the eyes mouths and tentacles are found at one end. why not call that anterior end?

Crayfish reproduction involves copulation wherein a male transfer sperm to the seminal receptacles of the female. In most species, egg-laying follows immediately after and the eggs are fertilized as they are released. The fertilized eggs are deposited by the females on her swimmerets where they are sheltered and aerated until they hatch into tiny crayfish which adopt the same niche as their parents. In many marines crabs, the female actually holds the sperm for some time before producing eggs and then often fertilizes them into her body. The marine crab eggs hatch into the larval stages which adopt the pelagic niche. These larvae are members of the marine plankton community for weeks or months before they undergo a final molt to assume the adult morph and niche. What is the evolutionary adaptive significance of larval stages which have niche requirements different from their parents?

Explanation / Answer

Squid belongs to the kingdom Animalia,Phylum Mollusca,Class Cephalopoda. The diversity of animals in this Phylum makes this group interesting.Muscular foot will be present in Squid they have a specialized specalization into the siphon and it's going to use this as a part of jet propulision system It has a prominent head and tentacales has a series of suckers. It has a streamlined body. The locomtion is achieved through jet propulsion stream in which the siphon funnels the water to push the body in motion.Siphon is atually a specialized foot and it has the ability to move and contract as needed so locomotion occur backwards motion. The fins acts as a stabilizers to orientate the body. The squid are some of the effective swimmers.Siphon is on the ventral surface and is used for the locomotion.

The adaptive significance of larval stages which have niche requirements other than parents is seen in Red crab.Christmas island located in Pacific ocean is known for its warm tropical climate.Throughout the most of the year the its endemic red crabs are found on the Rainforest floor But each year in the late October the adult crabs begin a spectacular mass migration from the Rain forest to the Coast to breed and release eggs into the sea.The crabs arrive at the coast dig big burrows for mating and the female then release their eggs in to the sea just as the high tide from the new moon hits the shore. If the wet season doesn't arrive on time the crabs will not spawn until the next lunar month.
