Question
After a decades of work, Dr. Octopus has built a worm hole into the Harry Potter universe and retrieved a small amount of Felix Felicus, an powerful magical serum which makes the user lucky. Dr. O discovers that the active ingredient in the serum is a protein similar to that produced by four-leaf clovers (4-LC). He identifies a human homolog for this gene, and predicts that it will be highly expressed in children, and teenagers (who he believes to be the most lucky) compared to a grumpy scientist control. Which of the following experiments will NOT help him:
1) PCR on cDNA from tissue samples
2) PCR on DNA from tissue samples.
3) Western blot to examine protein expression in tissue samples
4) In situ hybridization to examine mRNA expression in tissue samples.
Explanation / Answer
The correct answer should be
2) PCR on DNA from tissue samples.
As it will yeild the result based on the presence of the gene and will give positive result in all the case. It will not determine how much pf a protein is being formed which needs to be determined.
