A microbe (has numerous specific antigens on its cell surface) binds to specific receptors on the host cell surface. The entry of micro into the cell takes place only after the binding of microbe onto receptor of host cell. So, if there is no binding between microbe and host cell receptor, the microbe can’t enter into the cell, and infection of the tissue won’t happen.
That is, since specific tissues have specific receptors on constituent cells, microbes can bind onto and infection only the cells/tissue where there is a receptor for the microbe.
