Question

xico, large expanses of black lava create patches of unique habitat. If, in every selection favors generation, best hidden from on favors the darkest colored pocket mice in those habitats because they are A) the average color of the mice would get darker ors, you would predict that after many generations B) the average colo B) the aaverage cpredators, voe ulatitne mice would stay the same, however there would be less variability in color in the population. C) the average color of t tte mice would stay the same, however there would be more variability in color in the population. ) there would be more white mice and more black mice, but not very many brown m ice. E) dark coloration in mice would be maladaptive.

Explanation / Answer

Option 'A' is the right answer because this changes would favor for their survival. Its kind of 'Adaptive radiation'. Biologically it is very common when number of organisms become more with particular traits will easily pass into next generation than the traits which are available less in organisms. So according to that, this above said character of darkest colored pocket mice surely will go after many generations.

This kind of same example already were noted in England around 1850s, i.e., before industrialisation set in, it was observed that there were more white-winged moths on trees than dark-winged or melanised moths. However, in the collection carried out from the same area, but after industrialisation, i.e., in 1920, there were more dark-winged moths in the same area, i.e., the proportion was reversed. The explanation put forth for this observation was that 'predators will spot a moth against a contrasting background'. During post-industrialisation period, the tree trunks became dark due to industrial smoke and soots. Under this condition the white-winged moth did not survive due to predators, dark-winged or melanised moth survived.
