Firstly, lets understand what s STR . STRs are short tandom repeats, the repeats are up to 10 nucleotide long and situated one after another (tandomly). There are two locus for particular DNA sequence. Each DNA sequence is located on pair of chromosome. One chromosome comes from father and one from mother. However the number of the repeats are different in each individuals. Hence in STR analysis 2 band of two distinct locus will be observed. Here one locus is inherited from his father mailman (if he is dan’s father) and one inherited from his mother. Here three different STR markers are used for the analysis. All the markers are matched between parents and son. Hence D is matched between M and R. However it is possible that both the parents inherited same locus (in case of STR B and STR C). It is also one possibility that both the parents have same locus (in case of GMO) but generally both parents have different locus (in case of STR A) which is in accordance with their child (D lane of gel). Here the bands are looks like same but at molecular level there is a minor chance in repeat number in each individual. However it looks same in gel.
Hence Dan is related to mailman. he has strong genetic relation with mailman.
Here the end where the samples are loaded (and labelled as STRA, STRB, STRC), is a negative end, sample migrates toward the other end is the positive end.
