Question
I am going to make a bacterial organism with all of the normal genes, plus some genetically engineered genes. This organism does not normally have the lac operon. I have two genes that are used by tetracycline-resistant strains. The first, tetA, confers resistance to tetracycline. The second, tetR, is a repressor gene for tetA that detects the presence of tetracycline. I modify the normal LacZ gene to replace its operator region with the tetA operator, giving LacZT. I then put all three genes, LacZT, tetA, and tetR, into a bacterial cell. Describe the conditions when you will detect betagalactosidase.Explanation / Answer
