Question
Complete a paper comparing the Christian worldview to the secular worldview of accounting. In this paper, the student will research a topic(s) of choice that will analyze the Christian worldview as compared to the secular worldview. A good book to help you chose a topic(s) is “Where to Find it in the Bible” by Ken Anderson. My suggestion is that you buy the original book, which is 578 pages in length and contains a great many topics to help with writing your paper. The compact/pocket size of this book is much shorter and contains fewer topics. Specific Requirements: The Christian worldview paper should be a minimum of 8 double spaced pages and should also include a separate title page and bibliography. It should contain 3 sources for secular views and 3 biblical verses/scripture, APA format.
Explanation / Answer
A worldview is a set of beliefs used to understand the world. Everyone has a worldview. Everyone has a set of principles by which to judge right and wrong, and which guides them in everyday living. Your worldview forms the basis of how you interpret reality. Your world view is a lens through which you look at the world. Your worldview shapes your moral opinions. It affects what you believe about God, marriage, politics, social structures, environmental concerns, educational requirements, and economics, the raising of children, what kind of foods to eat, etc. It affects everything, because all of that which is around you and all of that with which you interact must be interpreted and must be understood in light of your worldview.
Today there are many views of God and many views of the world. The majority of the worldviews can be summed up into two major worldviews: a Christian worldview and a secular humanist worldview.
Christian world view:
Most people in America consider themselves to be Christians. But, the Christian worldview is declining and is under attack form what most call secular humanism. We must be very careful to define what we mean by humanism. By humanism we are not talking about humanitarianism. Humanitarianism means being kind to people. Secular humanists are atheists. To many this is a hard statement but let us look at what they believe. They reject any concept of a Creator in favor of evolution. They believe that in the universe there is nothing above and beyond the universe. Therefore man, as the highest form of evolution, is responsible to: create his own law and morality and to save himself. Man is the secular humanists’ god.
The Christian God is personal. He thinks. He communicates with us and He loves us. God is absolutely righteous and holy. The God of the Bible is not some impersonal force, particle field or energy mass. He is an independent, eternal, living being.
The Christian God is infinite. Therefore all of His attributes are unlimited. God is everywhere. God is all knowing. God is all powerful. Therefore God, not man, is the source for truth.
God is eternal. God does not change. God will always be God. He does not evolve.
Secular worldview:
Most secular humanist say they believe in the dignity and sanctity of human life. But the secular humanist worldview can provide no reasons why human life should be protected. So abortion is acceptable or even encouraged.
The secular humanist believes human beings are the product of chance evolution. Ancient Greek philosopher Anaximander, claimed that the development of life of a non-life and the evolutionary descent of man from animal. So this means that Darwin added nothing new to Anaximander theory.
The creation ? evolution debate is at the center of the two basic worldviews. One in which God is at the center, and one that puts man at the center.
The secular humanist view is that man’s nature is essentially good, and that if given enough time we will eventually outgrow the problems that society faces. This view states that we need to throw off past restraints so that we are free to explore and develop toward a higher state of being.
Christian view on the other hand, is that man is sinfull and is in need of a Savior. Without God prominently in the picture, culture and society inevitably degenerate to a state of disorder and decay (de-evolution).
The Christian worldview is ridiculed as mythology and irrational nonsense. Even the President of the United States is ridiculed for his beliefs and his Christian standards that he took into his office. Christian worldview is the only rational viewpoint that provides the ultimate meaning to our existence.
