Question
I need help solving this one my molecular biology exam starts after 4 hours
Thanks in advance
Explanation / Answer
1. If all exons of the gene corresponds to the same full length gene, the length of the primary transript if it comes out as a single transcript (the one produced immediately after transcription and does not undergo RNA splicing) would be approximately 5100 bp long. After primary transcript being processed, the transcript of certain sizes encoding various proteins will be produced.
2. Presence of transcription regulators like repressors would inhibit the activity of RNA polymerase and lead RNA polymerase to dissociate from the entire transcription complex.. Presence of certain DNA sequences called silencers that bind to factors may contribute to the destabilization of initiation complex thus inhibiting transcription.
3. If each transcript produces a protein, considering the splicing reaction to get rid of introns and each exon contributes to encoding a protein, the protein size would be as follows approximately.
Exon1= 1000 nucleotides= 333 amino acids (protein 1 size)
Exon 2+Exon 3= 1000+1000 nucleotides= 2000 nucleotides= 666 amino acids approximate (protein 2 size).
