Self Assessment

I believe each of us carries around four images of ourselves we feel the weight of all four. Three of them are excess baggage. The outer layer represents the image others have of us. The next layer represents the image we project to others. The third layer represents the image we have of ourselves. Finally, the fourth layers represents the truth about who we really are. It is the image of who we really are.

Q1) Do you agree with the author and believe that all of us have four images of ourselves? Do you find that your true image is much different than the ones that you project to your classmates, friends, family, acquaintances or people you work with? Explain.

Explanation / Answer

Q1) Do you agree with the author and believe that all of us have four images of ourselves? Do you find that your true image is much different than the ones that you project to your classmates, friends, family, acquaintances or people you work with? Explain.

Answer) Yes, I completely agree that all of us have four images of ourselves. How much the true image is different than the ones that a person projects completely depends upon the personality of the person. Also, different person can perceive you in different ways based on their personalities, society, perceptions and biases. The closer you become to the person, the deeper understanding you will have about all his images. To understand all four images of a person, we have to adopt a very rational and objective approach without any biases. Sometimes higher the difference between the image which you are trying to project and who you really are defines the internal conflict and dissonance between you. Example – If a person is not so friendly and social from inside but he projects himself to be friendly and very social , he will have to put in a lot of energy to do so , because this is not his true self . Also, as the people will come to know him better , they will slowly understand his true self which is non friendly. This will go rise to internal and external conflict in the person. There should be minimum difference between all 4 images in order to be happy and satisfied personally and professionally.
