Comparable worth:
Comparable worth specifies that the pay to an employee should be given based on the skill sets, responsibilities and ownerships they take irrespective of men or a woman. This is also known as pay equity.
Equal Pay Act:
Equal Pay Act is the law which has been signed in the year 1963. Its primary agenda is to abolish the difference in pay based on the gender.
This Act is established to ensure that ther is no discrimination in pay given to the opposite gender. It specifes any inidividual should be paid equally when they are working in the same environment with equal skill, responsibilities and efforts.
As per this Act, an inidividual who encourages pay discrimination is liable to loss caused to the organization.
Pros of Comparable worth:
1. Equity- There is no discrimination in terms of pay among to men and women irrespective of gender
2. Employmnet Opputunities- Increase in Women Empowerment
Cons of Comparable worth:
1. Cost- The companies in which there are more number of male employee and if they require female employee from large scale organization then they are supposed to pay fair amount when they are highly skilled.
This leads to higher cost to the organization towards employee which inturn reduce the profits
2. Difficulty to Identify the right candidate- In any organization, pay is determined on various parameters like education, experience, skill set, performance, designation, ownership and streess levels.
However, it is difficult to determine which inidividual is fit for which job and there is no standard process to identify the right candidate

As per Equal Pay Act, men and women should be paid equally if they have same skill set and same responsibilties to ensure there is no gender discrimination.
In this scenario, the requiremnets and personal financial needs of married man and single women may differ. Not necessarily, a single women is free from financial responsibilties. Also, a married man with children will have many financial needs for education of the children and for the smooth functionality of daily routine.
Both should be paid equally if they have same responsibilities. However, heir performance in the organization will vary. Hence, rewards, recognization, higher hike etc should be given to the best performer among them.
2. Should an organization offer higher compensation to minorities to attract those minorities to the organization?
Any company is ranked based on the profits outcome. Hence, an organization should decide the pay given to the candidate based on the parameters like education, experience, skill set, performance, designation but not based on the minority or not.If higher compensation given to the minority and if that candidate does not fulfill buisiness requirements it leads to loss for the organization. Primary focus should be on identifying the candidate through whose efforts the organizaton gets benefitted. Also, the organization should ensure that the right candidate is recognized for their efforts.
