Question
20 CHAPTER 13-CASE STUDY IPLEMENTING ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS AT ST. HAMPTON'S HOSPITAL IM Assume that you are the project manager at St. Hampton's Hospital, located in a largs city in the Midwest area of the United States. Your project implementing electronic medical records (EMR) at St. Hampton's. The information technology infrastructure is in place and the EMR software has been team has been tasked with purchased. Your ject focuses on implementation and adoption of EMR across the entire hospital (15 departments) proj 1. Explain how you would determine appropriate objectives and trade-o is for this 2. How might use of a sWOT analysis play a role? 3. What role might benchmarking play? 4. Assume that the network for this project is provided in Figure on the second page. project and how you might employ a weighting method to assist with this task. Also assume that it is not possible to accomplish tasks A. D, and E any faster than the durations provided in the on the second page. What other data would be needed in order to determine if project crashing can occur? 5. If we now add in the assumption that activity D and activity F require the same person (resource), then we are faced with an example of resource leveling. Either D or F must be delayed. How would we detemine which resource leveling option is preferred? P3 FIGURE: Network for Electronic Medical Records Implementation Activity F 6 weeks Activity G 3 weeks Activity B Activity C Activity A 4weeks 6weeks -3weeks Activity E Activity D 4 weeks 4 weeksExplanation / Answer
There can be 3 objective of a project:
Whichever is more importaint we need to put more weitage to the same and try to fulfil the same within the constrain. For Example Lets take the project to be Cost Critical i.e we need to cpmplete the project within the given budget. No more funds can be allocated to the project or if allocated also it will result in a loss of the project..
So to keep the project within budget we need to focus more on preventing the Cost Creep. Tracking the financials more often. Cutting on the Resource and quality costs whereever possible e.t.c
We can use a SWOT analyse to analyse the health of the project on any stage.
Benchmarking plays a very importaint role through the lifecycle of a project. It is best to decide on those few critical success factors that must go right for your business to flourish. For project management benchmarking, the critical success factors are usually the key business processes and how they are integrated. If these key success factors do not exist, then the organization’s efforts may be hindered.
To Determine whether we can crash the project following data will be needed:
Since the Critical path is ABCDEG. We can use resource levelling technique here. We can use the Resource to Complete the Activity D first since its on the Critical path and then move on to activity F.
