Question

Yesterday, the President of the United States announced that World War III broke out and the country is a target for nuclear warfare. There is hope however—there is a secret bomb shelter in the Mojave Desert. In addition to elected officials and military personnel, the President wants qualified civilians to enter the shelter as well. These civilians will be responsible for carrying on society in the case that the country is obliterated. As a member of his advisory council, the President has asked you to help him develop the selection criteria for those civilians who will be allowed to use the bomb shelter.

Brainstorm a list of all possible criteria the President could use in determining which civilians should be allowed to go into the bomb shelter. Narrow the list down to three and rank order this list from most important consideration to last consideration.

Explanation / Answer

As the assumption is that these civilains will be responsible for carrying on society if the country is obliterated then one needs to make sure that a mixed gender list needs to be created. Medical assistance will be needed so a female doctor or a female nurse needs to be considered. If everything will be obliterated then building and structures will have to be rebuilt. An architect will be needed. The architect is important as when they come out from the bomb shelter they will be surrounded by rubble. the architect from that rubble has to build buildings and structures to restart society. A farmer / agriculturist will be needed to start sowing and farming so that they can start growing rice, pulses and so on. Hence, the list will include:

As mentioned earlier this list of three people needs to be a mix betwen male and female.
