Even though the mean in both graphs are same, the variation in values in graph 2 would lead to more deviation and cannot be completely taken into account. In the 2nd graph, we may have to omit values which are much more than mean and has more deviation to get a better picture of the overall process. In 1st graph the difference between means and value would be of low variabiltiy as value are quite near to each with less variation amongst values. 2nd graph on the othe hand has high variability and cannot be completely trusted. the experiment needs to be repeated again. The variability may be due to technical reasons or biological reasons and one need to completely assess the situation to come to a particular conclusion.
The data that would show significant difference would be the 2nd graph as deviations are more for both forest and field (as shown in bar graphs). The event would be more due to a chance as the values within the same cohort vary more than 1st graph plotted.
