Diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s are devasting neurodegenrative disorders that severely compromise equality of life and eventually kill people. What do you think they have not been selected against in nature to the point that they are lost from the gene pool?

Explanation / Answer

Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s are the diseases affecting elderly individuals, means, after the reproductive age. So, the natural selection does not select these genes and delete from the gene pool although they reduce the life span. The natural selection generally remove the deleterious genes if they affect the reproductive success of an individual.
