Question

Research the rise in antibiotic-resistant populations of bacteria, and write a unified response evaluating the use of antibiotics. Your response should be no more than one page. Place your response below. Marks will be awared for knowledge, clarity, comprehension, and an understanding of the conflicting nature of different perspectives (e.g. societal, economic, scientific, and technological). Answer the following when writing your response:

What effect does the increasing frequency of antibiotic resistance alleles in bacteria have on our potential ability to fight infectious disease in the future?

What could be done to ensure that we have effective antibiotics for future use?

Where do antibiotics come from, and is it possible to create new ones to replace the ineffective ones?

If antibiotics were no longer effective, how would this affect the gene pool of the human species?

Explanation / Answer

- The potential ability of fighting bacteria naturally by the body in case of any infectious disease will be decreased and the resistance alleles begins to dominate the population.

- We should administered less antibiotics in the body. In case of necessity to the body, when the body is unable to fight against the bacteria naturally then we should use antibiotics.

- Antibiotics come from plants, mold, and other bacteria.

Yes it is possible to create new antibiotic by replacing the ineffective antibiotic by tweaking the chemical structure of the ineffective one which has been resistant to the bacteria. This tweaking of chemical structure has been done to penicillin which give rise to ampicillin bacteria.

- In this case people with natural antibiotics will survive and the gene pool will become limited with small population.
