This is a graded discussion: 5 points possible Unit 7: Nucleic Acid Structure and Flow of Genetic Information due Jun 17 at 9:59pm In the news, we often hear examples of how DNA or the transfer of genetic information impacted someone's life. Examples range from DNA fingerprinting to genetically engineered organisms to an individual with a genetic disease. In each of these scenarios, the structure of nucleic acids and the flow of genetic information through mRNA to protein are involved. Describe an example of the how the structure of DNA or the transfer of genetic information impacted someone's life. Your answer must be at least 100 words long. Search entries or author Unread 6ReplyExplanation / Answer
DNA are the molecule which stores the heritable information in coded form. DNA form the mRNA and which translated to protein. The DNA of closely related species have similar sequence and a very minor differece in parents but are unique. They have very minor differences so that by comparing parent of a child can be identified. Moreover sequence of DNA from one parent provide a unique identity to individual. Any change in DNA sequence may lead to genetic disorders and may be corrected by editing gene and replacement of defective gene can treat the disorder. Also horizontal gene transfer may performed by genetic engineering in order to obtain organism with a desired character.
