nol Home My Accou BIO 103 Scientific Method EXPLORATION EXPERIMENTATION EVALUATION Exercise 2 The Effect of Greenhouse Gases on Global Warming In this exercise, you will research the effects of excess greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. You will apply the scienbific method and m now greerhouse gases warm the planet by cowering a jar with plastic wrap. You will then relate the findings of your experiment to global warming Procedure Part 1: Greenhouse Gases and Global Warming 1 In Exercise 1, we observed that gases have different propenes In thes section we will further investigate gases How are greenhouse gases related to global warming? and ask the queston 2 Conduct background research on global warming from relable Internet sources such ats with cunent research on the topic such as UC Berkley. Yale, Stanford, elc NASA USGS, IPCC, and major universites Note: The most acceptable websites to use for Internet sources end in "gov or"edu. "Websites e should be avoided since recognizing biased information may be difficult. Political, blogs, and news websites often have information that is biased and not based solely on scientific support. For this reaso nding in"com" or "org n, these sites should also be avoided in investigating scientific toplcs 3 Wirite a short synopsis of your indings in Panel 1 Use full sertences a and proper grammar and speling White the synopsis in your own words- DO NOT copy test directly from webstes. The synopsis should be 1 so 2 pages in nstructor Include a paragraph for each of the followning length, unkess atherwise indicated by your Deine greenhouse gas, gobal warming and cimate change b Exgian the difference between global warming and cimate changeExplanation / Answer
Greenhouse gases - Gases like carbon diaoxide , methane , nitrous oxide which remain in the atmosphere semi permanently and do not respond physically or chemically to the changes in the atmosphere are called greenhouse gases . These greenhouse gases act like a thermal blanket for the earth , absorbs heat and warms the Earths surface to a life supporting temperature .
Global warming - Sunlight passes through the atmosphere and warms the Earths surface . Some heat is radiated back towards space . When there are excess greenhouse gases in the atmosphere they absorb large amount of radiated heat and reemit in all directions . This result in the warming of the Earth and lower atmosphere .This is called global warming .
Climate change - Changes that occure on the Earth like warmer temperatures than normal , melting of glaciers and other ice and rise in sea level as a result of ice melting are called climate change .
