The indicators of childbirth complicated deaths observed in Chilean mummies were septic conditions, acute diseases and cultural practices related to childbirth In total, there were 18 childbirth complicated deaths. Out of these, 3 were without complete delivery. So, the proportion of females who died without complete delivery was (3/18) 0.1667 or 16.67%. The frequency of childbirth complicated death decreased from 1300 BC to AD 600. The cultural practices related to child birth that could have contributed to the high rates of childbirth complicated deaths in Arica were delivery on earth surface, application of cow dung on umbilicus, use of unsterilized delivery instruments etc.
