Two factors that are important in preventing or delaying the onset of chronic diseases in the elderly are-
i) Dietary approaches- Obesity and calorie restriction is important to prevent chronic diseases. For this, non-starch polysaccharides should be taken as food; cholesterol and fatty acids containing foods should be avoided as these foods affect lipid profiles, leading to the onset of chronic diseases in elders.
ii) Physical activities- Regular physical activity helps a person to mantain weight,healthy blood pressure, reduce risks for chronic diseases like diabetes,cardiovascular diseases; strengthen body, improve mental health.
