Question
Consider a diploid nucleus that will undergo meiosis as shown below. On chromosome 1 are found genes A, B, and C. These genes are organized similarly on the two homologous chromosomes but one has all "capitalized" (dominant) alleles and the other has all "lowercase" (recessive) alleles (see below). On chromosome 2 are found genes D and E and they are organized similarly on the 2 homologous chromosomes but one has all "capitalized" (dominant) alleles and the other has all "lowercase" (recessive) alleles (see below). The chromosomes with capitalized genes are maternal chromosomes and those with lower case genes are the paternal chromosomes. The picture below shows the arrangement of the genes on these two chromosomes. This cell will undergo meiosis + cytokinesis. Assume NO recombination will occur (it does not always occur). For your homework, show the products of meiosis for the two different arrangements of tetrads during meiosis I. Please don't bother showing see each stage of meiosis.Explanation / Answer
As the question stated that no recombination occurs. so there will be 4 possible combinations-
1) Chromosome1-ABC and Chromosome2-DE
2) Chromosome1-ABC and Chromosome2-de
3) Chromosome1-abc and Chromosome2-DE
4) Chromosome1-abc and Chromosome2-de
