DNA is the genetic material of most living organisms. It plays role of storing and transferring information from one generation to next. The two special properties which explain this are :

(i) dna can store information because it is made up of four bases - adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine, which are arranged as in specific orders (which forms a gene ).

(ii) dna can pass information from one generation to next because structurally DNA is a double helix: made up of two complementary antiparallel strands.
