When a phage infect a bacteria, the choice of bacteria mainly depends on presence ofreceptors which are specific to specific type of bacteria on the bacterial cell surface, which phage virus can detect and attach. Thus a phage can only bind selectively to the particular bacteria carrying the specific receptor.

when 1 ml of tube A is transfered to tube B with 9ml soluion, the dilution is then 1/10 X 1/10= 1/100

now when 0.5 ml from tube B is transferred to tube C, then the final dilution is 1/100 X 0.5/5 =1/100 X 1/10 =1/1000

6. here to isolate the virus, we require to isolate the bacteria Bacillus subtilis from the soil. As virus requires a host to grow, culture of partcular bacteria can used to isolate them. Now, to isolate the bacteria, soil can be first mixed with distilled water and then diluted serially. Next, particular amount of diluted solution is plated on agar plate. Bacterial colonies will grow on the plate depending on dilution and a pure culture of Bacillus subtilis with the specific virus present can be isolated.
