Explanation / Answer
The purpose of the research was to elucidate the experiences and perceptions of the self-management of diabetes as it was narrated by older people who were diagnosed with insulin dependent diabetes and were basically living in a rural area. The research question basically revolves around whether there is a need to create guidelines for diabetic management which is centrally targeted for the elderly population. Research design of this study was basically unstructured interviews which started with an open question. Interviews were also transcribed and analysed accordingly to the tenets of existential phenomenology. A purposive sample was drawn from different local agencies which were aged between January and May 2005 ,they also consisted of English speaking people aged 65 to 85 years and were able as well as willing to talk at length about their diabetes.
