Question
On a college campus, one student returned from vacation with a contagious flu virus. The
spread of the virus through the student body is given by p(t) = 100t / 2t^2+32 , where t is the number of days that have passed since the student has returned to cmapus and P(t) is the percentage of students who have the flu at that time.
a) What percentage of the students have the flu after one week?
b) Find lim t >00 P(t)
c) Explain what your answer in part b) tells you in the context of this problem.
For a, dont you just "plug-n-chug" 7 and solve?
For b, I have a limit of 0 because the denominator degree is > than the numerator degree
For c, Im not sure what they mean by this
00 = infinite
Explanation / Answer
a) You are correct, it would be 100(7) / 2(7)^2+32 which equals 5.38%
b) Yes the limit is 0.
c) I think they're saying explain what it means when the percentage eventually goes to 0%. A flu virus will be present in the school for a certain amount of time and then disappear, which this function that goes to 0 at infinity portrays.
