Write a report card about (Philippines) on environmental issues and include an overall environmental grade for it. Additionally, provide a grade (from A to F) for each of the following items AND then justify each grade with no more than 100 words per issue. When you assign the final grade you can justify this grade with no more than 300 words. Furnish grades for the following environmental issues:-

Explanation / Answer

Population:The population of Philippines is increasing rapidly and among densest populated country in world. The population is expected to double in the near 30 years. Due to overpopulation the natural resources are depleting fast, lack of healthcare and education, lack of clean water and access to safe sanitation and other environmental problems like illegal mining, improper waste disposal is a serious concern in Manila. I will give a grade E to this problem. Since overpopulation is the root problem for all the environmental issues.

Biodiversity: Since due to continued deforestation, there is only 3% of the original forests left which affect the biodiversity in the region in its forests. 4 species are extinct now and 46 species are endangered.Though Philippines is less biodiversity in its rainforest but there is a great biodiversities in its corals. The Philippines is one of the centre of the marine biodiversity in the world. It has about 400 species of corals, 22000 jellfish species, 16 seagrass species, 1600 seaweeds.2500 fish species and 824 species macrobenthic algae. So on the basis of that I will give it a C grade.

Water resources: most of the water available here is uncontaminated. About 58% groundwater in Philippines is contaminated. The source of this water pollution is mainly due to dumping of untreated industrial wastewater and domestic waste. Moreover only about 1/3 of the river water can be used for supply of public water. The water pollution is a serious concern for the fishing and tourism industries. I will give it a E grade based on its impact on the environment.

Energy: the problem of electricity outages is common in Philippines during summer. During this time the capacity of hydropower plants is reduced due to this seasonal dry periods. The government of Philippines has a big challenge to establish new power plants to generate electricity for the future needs. On the basis of that i will give it a D grade.

Air pollution: The quality of air is a major concern in Philippines. Due to air pollution about 4000 deaths are reported in Manila every year and 98% population here is affected by this. The source of air pollution is industrial waste, automobile exhausts and open dump sites. Based on the severity of this I will give this F grade.

Waste management: Improper waste disposal is a major problem in Philippines. The Paseg river of Philippines is considered one of the most dirtiest river in the world. About 150 tons and 75 tons of domestic waste and industrial waste respectively is dumped every day into this river. Based on that i will give it a E grade.

Overall grade: the overall grade after considering various environmental issues like overpopulation, improper waste management, air and water pollution, energy crisis in Philippines i will give it an E grade.
