Question

please answer all parts to the question(1 big question):

- How does the residence time of water in each reservoir correlate to the size of the reservoir?

- New Orleans lies at the mouth of the Mississippi River, and is protected by levees and other structures that are the result of channelization. How do you think channelization effects the ability of river water to drain into the Gulf of Mexico and what effect do you think channelization has on the overall likelihood that New Orleans will be flooded again in the near future, or protected by these man-made structures?

- The concept of interbasin transfers is highly controversial in California, where much of the fresh water from Yosemite National Park is pumped over the Sierra mountains into the Imperial Valley and the Los Angeles area to facilitate agriculture and regional growth. Since all water on the continents come from evaporated water into the atmosphere, and the atmospheric winds blow this moisture around in different ways, why is there a threat to the Yosemite Valley water system if the water will simply, eventually, return to the area through those evaporative hydrologic processes?

Explanation / Answer

How does the residence time of water in each reservoir correlate to the size of the reservoir?
Answer: Large volume reservoirs-long residence time
Small volume reservoirs-less residence time than large volume reservoir
Large volume reservoirs have long residence times than small volume reservoirs. Reservoirs can be described as where the place water is stored or where water is staying some period.
