Part B Using the population density data, identify the dominant religion practiced by most people in the countries of mainland Southeast Asia. What areas are exceptions to this generalization? What factors can you use to explain the location of these exceptions?

Explanation / Answer

Mainland of Southeast Asia comprises the portion that lies between South east Asia lying east of India and south of China, it comprises countries like Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. This region is bounded by the Indian Ocean in west to Pacific Ocean in the east. If we talk about the dominant religion of this area then we we’ll be seeing that there we can find amalgamation of religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Daoism, Confucianism etc. But if we have have to choose a religion which is most adopted by the people of southeast Asian Religion then it would be Buddhism as it is the oldest of the religion followed by the people of this area. But this amalgamation happens in twentieth century when due to globalisation the people of other part of the globe settled in this region and have shared they religion belief and thus blending of the religion do take place in this area. The exceptions of this generality is the areas of Laos and the highlands of Vietnam where Hinduism is more frequent than Buddhism.
