EN‘ on w ne trer or not this discrimination is justified. 14 Marvin Johnson is an environmental engineer for one of several local plants whose water discharges flow into a lake in a flourishing tourist area. Included in Marvin's responsibilities is the monitoring of water and air discharges at his plant and the periodic preparation of reports to be submitted to the Department of Nat- ural Resources. Marvin just prepared a report that indicates that the level of pollution in the plant's water discharge slightly exceeds the legal limitations. However, there is little reason to believe that this excessive amount area; at worst, it will endanger a small number of fish. On the other hand, poses any danger to people in the solving the problem will cost the plant more than $200,000. s supervisor says the excess should be regarded as a mere "technicality" and he asks Marvin to data so that the plant appears to be in compliance. He explains: "We can't afford the $200,000. It would set us behind our competitors. Besides the bad publicity we'd get, it might scare off some of tourist Marvin' industry." How do you think Marvin should respond to Edgar's request? firm that snerializes in developing software for manage-Explanation / Answer
first of all it is important to note that Marvin is an Environmental engineer and his foremost task is to monitor water and air discharge from his plant. he should respond in a postive way , he cannot be dishonest with his profession of taking care of environmental pollution exceeding safe limits.
If everybody thinks the same way as his supervisor Mr Edgar purposes the idea to Marvin to term it as technical error and vary datas to be in a safe side, then the environment along with its species would be a danger place for survival. He should think that he is an Environmental engineer and he must be loyal to his job and leave the other counterparts whether they follow guidelines or not.
he should something such as convincing the owner of the firm that loss of wealth, which is about $200k is recoverable but loss of sustainable environment is hard to recovered. afterall that what he has been taught all those years in his college/graduation if he does not follow what he studied then the world is at loss from him.
just in case if a doctor had all done with his M.B.B.S degree and for few million he sells kidneys of his patients to a racket does his doctory is of any worth in the same way he should do what is right to the society.
in the above para its said that at worst it will endanger fishes and tourist industry as water discharged is dumped into a lake of flourishing tourist area. he should realise that tourist area fetch a huge foreign exchange to a nation which helps in building up GDP and growing economically and secondly if fishes are contaminated by the water discharge then the locality will be getting sick as its consumed by the locals itself. and moreover air discharge beyond safe limits causes asthma, lung cancer and heart diseases so considering all the facts he should do everything what is right .ie spending $200k because priority of safe environment is of utmost importance.
