The Muskrat falls project started its construction few years bcak in 2013 and designed of around 824 MW power capacity. the current status is at the end of the last year i.e 2017 it was not fully complete and has been constructed only about 80% of its desired construction.
it is expected that it would be completed by 2019 that too without full power and would be ready to run on its full load by the summer of 2020. some controversies sticks to this project such that when it was started it was not fully justified as it had threat to the locality to be drowned downstream and some soils contains mercury and its dug out could lead to the contamination of waters and also due to delay the building cost been increasing every now and then.moreover the calculated electricity rates after the fully functioning of this project from each households would be double the charge from their previous bills. this is due to the overtime construction of the project which has costed more than $11 billion and people have been protesting against its construction from day one.
considering the facts upon its market which is not going to be a positive one, it is predicted that literally no one will purchase the electricity produced by muskrat fall project it will be an expensive power to be consumed by the localities with less than half the half the power intended to serve the island of Newfoundland. the project has been designed to produce more than 824 MW of electricity and covering around 1600 km of transmission lines across the areas of newfoundlands and labrador.
the churchill river is dammed by this project and its huge watershed led into the thought of dam around it.
