Question
1) If you begin a flight in Bogotá Colombia destined for Los Angeles, how will the flight path potentially be altered by the Coriolis effect? Explain the essential mechanism of the Coriolis effect in your answer 2) Describe how both the Sahara desert at (30 degrees north latitude) and the Amazon rain forest (along the equator) are both products of the same process driven by Hadley cells. (three or four sentences minimum) 3) Explain how the CORIOLIS effect and HADLEY CELLS combine to create the Easterly (flowing from east to west) TRADE WINDS in the tropics. (three sentences minimum)Explanation / Answer
1) the coriolis effect is caused by coriolis force which is a inertial force which acts on the objects that are is motion relative to the rotating reference frame...as the path of the flight are transversed in the direction of equator there is no effect of coriolis force on flights
2)if you we go on 30° latitude on either sides of equator, then the cool and dry air adiabatically warm and sink to bottom that is settle down on bottom surface, due to frictional flow it forms a loop and its forms a ferrrel cells. It absorbs atmospheric moisture and coriolis effect gives it's a westward direction that why we find desert on 30° latitude above equator and we find rainforest along equator in Amazon as it's bring rain to these regions
3) coriolis effect (defined above) give a west ward direction to these Hadley cells which are loop type winds generated at 30° degree latitude on either a side of equator, and when these two process acts simultaneously trade winds are generated which are caused by uneven heating and cooling of air on these regions
