Question

Find an equation of a plane through the point (4, 4, 5 ) which is parallel to the plane -3xt1y-4z=2 in which the coefficient of x is -3.
I am short on time and will really appreciate some feedback on this. I have done this problem so many times and look at many examples, but I keep getting lost. Explanation / Answer

given that (l,m,n)=(4,4,5) & ax+by+cz=d is -3x+y-4z=2.

we know that a plane which is parallel to ax+by+cz=d and passing through (a,b,c) is given by

a(x-l)+b(y-m)+c(z-n)=0

-3(x-4)+1(y-4)-4(z-5)=0

-3x+12+y-4-4z+20=0

-3x+y-4z+28=0

-3x+y-4z=-28

Therefore the required plane equation is -3x+y-4z=-28
