But sometimes the chemicals land on unintentional targets. What sorts of atmospheric conditions should be considered to avoid undesired herbicide/pesticide drift when spraying?

4) The Rain shadow area is region in the leeward side of the mountain where the cloud is blocked by the mountain and hence there is total dryness in the region. One of the examples of such a region is the Thar desert in India where the precipitation (rain) is blocked by the arravalli ranges in the south east and the himalayas in the northeast. As the designation of the place indicates, the Thar is a desert region covered mainly aeolian sand. And the climate is mostly dry throughout the year with very little or nil rainfall.

5) The most important factor that must be speculated during crop dusting is the direction of wind. The wind is generally considered to opposite to the direction of the plane for a successfull operation. But if the case gets reversed the the pesticides get delivered to the incorrect targets. Also precipitaion rates are a major factor while such operations because the rain water might dilute the herbicides/pesticides sprayed and thus can cause a heavy mobility of the pesticides. And thus drifting of such chemicals can take place during such events.

Temperature inversions are a typical phenomenon asociated with the troposphere where the cool air is being overlain by the warm air layer. Hence this causes the temperature to decrease with the increasing height from the surface. This is due to the fact that the warm inversion layer in the troposphere stops the process of atmospheric mixing. This process is just the opposite of atmospheric stability where there is a vertical motion of air parcels which are considered to be cooler and the warmer air parcels are towards the surface.
