6. -/1.5 points MBasicStat7 8.E.037 My Notes Ask Your Teacher At a large block party, there are 50 men and 30 women. You want to ask opinions about how to improve the next party. You choose at random five of the men and separately choose at random three of the women to interview. (Enter your answers to the nearest whole number.) (a) What is the probability (in percent) that any of the 50 men is in your random sample of five men to be interviewed? What is the probability (in percent) that any of the 30 women is in your random sample of three women to be interviewed? (b) Is your sample of eight men and women an SRS of people from the party? O Yes No

Explanation / Answer

we are given 50 men and 30 women in the group ,

a) So, probability that 4 men can be chosen out of 40 men is

5/50 x 100= 10%

3 women can be chosen out of 30 women is again

3/30 x 100 = 10%

hence both the probabilites are the same

b) No

SRS men that when all the people in the group stand a equal chance of selection. However, in this case we are creating seperate blocks of men and women and then we select 5 men and 3 women from these groups seperately. Hence this is not a case of SRS.
