Question
Given two nonzero vectors upsilon vector and omega vector, determine whether it is possible to compute the following quantities or not. If it possible to compute the given quantity, then describe it and be as complete, detailed, and precise as possible. If it is not possible to compute the given quantity, then explain why. (a)||upsilon vector||/upsilon vector (b) upsilon vector/||upsilon vector|| (c) ||upsilon vector||omega vector (d) ||upsilon vector||omega vector + omega vector/2 (e) ||upsilon vector||omega vector + ||omega vector||Explanation / Answer
a) Not possible to compute. The reason is vector division is not possible to compute.
b)Possible. A vector divided by its modulus is called its unit vector.
c)Possible. Here , a vector and the modulus of another vector , that is, a scalar, are being multiplied. Thus a scalar and a vector are being multiplied, which is possible to compute.
d)Possible. The first quantity is a vector and the second quantity is also a vector. Two vectors can be added. Therefore this quantity can also be computed.
e)Not Possible. Here the first quantity is a vector and the second quantity is the modulus of a vector, that is , a scalar. A vector and a scalar cannot be added.
