Question
This is a multi step question. The last step can be found at : www.chegg.com/homework-help/questions-and-answers/question-several-parts-m-trying-break-part-s-question-first-part-already-answered-chegg-fo-q10024255 This step says to add the parallel line to your graph. Include the point given in problem 13 and your point from problem 14, labeled L and M respectively. Problem 13 which needs to be labeled L reads: What is the equation in standard form of a parallel line that passes through (0,-3) The answer I have is: y +3=0 (y-0) y +3=0 y=3 Problem 14 which needs to be labeled M reads: On the parallel line, find the ordered pair where x=2 The answer I have is: 3 (2) -y -3=0 6-y-3=0 -y+3=0 y=3 ordered pair (2,3) After the parallel line above is drawn and labeled on the graph it says describe the relationship (if any) between the lines drawn in problems 16 and 17. Problem Chegg page given above. Thanks very much :)
Explanation / Answer
equation of line in point slope form is
y-y1 = m(x-x1)
it passes through ( 0 ,-3)
parallel lines have identical slopes
therefore, plugging the values we get
y + 3 = m( x-0)
y + 3 = mx
y = mx - 3
where, m is the slope of original line equation
