Question
1. Compute the volume of water that seeps from the channel into the river in the figure below. The water surface elevations in the channel and river with respect to the underlying bedrock are 13 and 10.5 m, respectively. The hydraulic conductivity of formation A is 5.6 m/day and that of formation B is 12.3 m/day. Hint: Don't forget to apply your skills from module 3 to find the equivalent horizontal K before solving for the volume of water seepage! Channel River Formation A Formation B Impermeable bedrock LA 340 mm LB 130 m-+Explanation / Answer
first of all i want to say you that you have not mentioned any description of the module 3 here. so we just take the above descriptions only to solve. but it may be possible that answer will be approximate. so lets begin with this.
according to the given question we need to calculate the volume which get discharge from the upper section to the channel.
now for that we have to calculate the volume of both the column first so
volume of big channel=13*10.5=136.5
volume of river= 130*10.5=1365
so volume discharge is 1365-136.5=1228.5
this will have to multiply with the rate of flow=12.6-5.6=7
so volume discharge=1228.5*78599.5m3/day
