QUESTION 4 As stated the first night of class, it is important to control for because, if the effects of these variables are not controlled for, the model is O moderator; spurious O mediator; faulty O spurious; misspecified va riables your analyses non-spurious; correct QUESTION 5 In one of the examples during class, we created a dummy variable of biological sex with males coded as a one and females coded as a zero and found a mean of 0.483. In one sentence, using the language I stated in class, describe what this is telling us. Arial Path Words:0Explanation / Answer
4.
It is important to control for spurious variables you analyze, beacuse if the effects of these variables are not controlled for, the model is misspecified.
(Spurious variables are variables which are not related to each other, yet it may wrongly be inferred as they are, due to the presence of a third variable which makes it look like this. This is also referred to as multi-collinearity.)
5.
Males have been coded as 1 and females coded as 0.The mean of this variable is 0.483. In one sentence, dsecribe what this is telling us.
This is telling us that 48.3% of the people are males, and 51.7% of the people are females. (Assumed male+female = 100%)
( 483 out of 1000 or 48.3 out of 100 people are males. Since males are coded as 1, the sum of all values would be the number of males in the class. The mean is sum of all values divided by the number of obserbvations. This is equal to the number of males divided by the number of observations (this is because females are 0, and the sum will in fact be the number of males+0 which is equal to the number of males)).
