Pediculosis can spread through head lice,body lice and crab lice. Transmission occurs due to direct contact with the infested individual. Crab lice or pubic lice is transmitthrough sexual contact.
Symptoms-
First indication is ltching on the area where the lice is feeding,in the genital area and it may take as long as 3weeks.
•Incubation period vary from 1-2 weeks. For Crab lice is 6-8 days.
•Infectious period- It is the period of communicability during which an infectious agent may be transferred directly or indirectly from an infected person to another person.
Risk factor
It is from 3 to 12years of age,female gender,close contact with infested individual,and overcrowed places
•Treatment
Medicated shampoos containing pyrethrins is preferred for treating head lice. Lindane based shampoos are recommended for infants,pregnant and lactating women and elderly person. Nit comes is also helpful in removing nits from hair.
