Question

What type of classes do students want to enroll in? That was the question that I wanted to find answers too. I wanted to determine if there was a difference in the class type preference (Live, Online, and Hybrid - which is part live/part online) of students who would be taking the class. I randomly sampled 150 Stat I students and asked them which format they would prefer for their Stats II class when they took the class. The results were analyzed in the Statistix software and the results are shown below:

Multinomial Test

Hypothesized Proportions Variable: Expected
Observed Frequencies Variable: Observed

Hypothesized Observed Expected Chi-Square
Category Proportion Frequency Frequency Contribution
Live    0.333333 42 50.00        1.28
Hybrid 0.333333 40 50.00 2.00
Online 0.333333 68 50.00 6.48

Overall Chi-Square      9.76
P-Value 0.0076
Degrees of Freedom 2

We reject Ho. There is sufficient evidence to indicate the proportions for the three class types are the same.

Explanation / Answer

Since, p value=0.0076 < 0.05

We will reject Ho and conclude at 5% level of significance that there is sufficient evidence to indicate at least 2 proportions for the 3 class types differ.

Option 2.
