1) Anna is interested in finding if a new teaching method improves student’s understanding of Intro to Chemistry concepts. She selects 6 students from an introductory course in chemistry and tests them on their knowledge of the content. Then she uses her new teaching method on the same 6 students before readministering the exam. She compares the student’s scores at Time 2 to their scores at Time 1 to see if they improved.

2) Callie is teaching three statistic classes, each of which has a different meeting time: 9am, 3pm, 8pm. Callie wants to know which class time is the best to learn math. So, she takes the final exam scores and compares the 9am, 3pm, and 8pm classes to see if one class performed significantly better.

3) Zara is working in a lab and is assigned to test a new drug that is supposed to help students study. Zara takes 30 U of A undergraduates and randomly assigns them into two groups. One group is a control group while the other receives a dosage of the experimental drug. Then, Zara records how many hours the individuals in each group spend studying. She compares the means and standard deviations of the two groups to see if there is a significant difference in hours spent studying.
