b.As the number of miles completed increases from 1 to 4 what is your average speed (in miles per minute)?

c.If you pass mile marker 9 at 69 minutes, what average speed in miles per minute do you need to run for the remainder of the race to meet your goal to complete the 13.1 mile half-marathon in 110 minutes?

Explanation / Answer

45 seconds means 45/60 = 0.75 minutes. So, 7 minutes 45 seconds mean : 7.75 minutes.

15 seconds means 15/60 = 0.25 minutes. So, 19 minutes 15 seconds mean : 19.25 minutes.

a) 7.75 minutes + 19.25 minutes = 27 minutes

b) 3 miles / 27 minutes = 0.11 miles/min

c) 13.1 miles - 9 marker = 4.1 miles left.

110 minutes - 69 minutes = 41 minutes,

Now, 4.1 miles/41 minutes = 0.1 miles/minute
