This question is about your ability to research the web / literature and find the answer to some key questions about Mars - i.e. about water on Mars.

1. Is there water on Mars? How do we know? What evidences do we have for it ? (5 points)

2. Where is the water on Mars? What form is it in? (2 points)

(Note: the emphasis on "is" is about the present Mars, not the past history of Mars)

Explanation / Answer

1. Yes there’s water available on mars as NASA continuously receive photographs from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). These photographs shows very high value of reflection which is only possible when there is something on the surface of Mars which reflects the sunlight apart from this the bulk density of the planet can only be possible when there’s some very light material present on Mars and density of water exactly fits into this bracket.

2. The water is present on the surface of Mars and it is in solid phase that is in the form of ice and hence is responsible for high reflectance.
