Why must we think of urban agriculture as a global phenomenon, rather than a movement rooted solely in the United States? Do we see histories of successful urban agricultural endeavors across the globe? Or even evidence of thriving urban farms and gardens in other nations in the twenty-first century? At the same time, must we consider the problems urban agriculture is attempting to address (things like food access in urban 3. settings; access to fresh water; and the realities of climate change) as global concerns?Explanation / Answer
ANSWER-
Urban agriculture is a new practice of cultivation in urban cities where any space in urban areas can be turned into a venue of agriculture ,such as growing crops on the rooftops of our house and its distribution locally.Urban agriculture is a method developed out of the necessity for a better food,at low cost and also which is environment friendly.Urban agriculture, as the term seems,is not a market,a trend or an industry but a movement of the people to create a sustainable future for us.We are what we eat .Food is our need,a right to be reached out to everyone.Urban agriculture is definitely a global phenomenon,rahter than a movement rooted solely in the United States.But in developing countries it is more feasible than the developed ones.In developed countries such as Canada,USA urban agriculture plays a minor role in improving the food security due to the lack of space and the economic hindrance too.In case of developing countries ,such as India,China,Kenya the crop yield is good enough and sustainable except the barriers of pollution,illegal use of farming which can lead to quality production.It has become a successful endaevour across the globe where such practice constitutes around 15-20% percent of the world's food supply and could play a major role in achieving global food security,with a significant difference seen in yield between developed and underdeveloped countries.As an example in Vietnam,80% of fresh vegetables are produced by urban agriculture.In some Asian countries,80% population is involved with urban agriculture.Historically it is more popular and feasible in developing countries than the developed ones.The cons that comes besides the pros(nutritional benefit) of urban agriculture are also quite in number that includes pollution,less access to clean water leading to various health related issues.Air pollution in urban areas is very prominent and water often used is either gutter water or wastewater.Other issues include- illegal practice of farming which emphasizes on short term crops for maximum profits,increasing population in some parts of the world;increasing urbanisation leading to demolition of areas for farming to make space for housing.The solution is one,Human beings.We need to realize we belong to Anthropocene epoch where our action defines our life.We need to control our minds and our work should approximate the situations we exist in.What needs to be seen is that need doesnot become greed,because needs can always be met but greed can never be fulfilled.
